The 1st Annual Cardboard Boat Races on the river downtown were a great success! Congratulations to the Riverhead Business Improvement District (BID), the Town Board (even though Southampton’s Supervisor sunk ours in the opening race), the participants who made such fantastic boats, and the crowds that came for making it happen.

It seems that all of the parties concerned in the recent Blues Fest 2010 controversy, which was so vividly and dramatically reported in the media far and wide, can congratulate themselves on a solution that will allow the music to go on. There is a little progress in Riverhead after all.

Through meetings of iloveriverhead and our network committed to downtown revitalization, task groups have been formed to:

start a downtown community garden;
start a downtown civic association and address downtown neighborhood and housing issues;
expand the downtown farmers market; and
reach out to the town’s youth to involve them in rejuvenation efforts.

Members of the iloveriverhead group will meet on Tuesday, February 23 at 7PM at the Riverhead Free Library. On the agenda is civic engagement downtown, upcoming downtown events, supporting local downtown small businesses, and the need for a townwide PR campaign.
