Riverhead News-Review Editorial: “Civic group is crucial for downtown…”
On its Opinion page of Thursday, February 18, the Riverhead News-Review said a civic group is crucial for downtown’s future. The editorial cited gains made by other civic groups in town. It also gave examples of issues a downtown civic group might address, such as:
- making sure planning was inclusive of all affected;
- pressuring the town to craft legislation that cracks down on absentee landlords, drug dealing, and slumlords;
- protecting residents’ quality of life.
The editorial said that a civic association would be a way to get results, and that’s just what downtown needs—results.
